A video of extortion from hawkers in subway near Churchgate went viral on Tuesday after an advocate shared it on social media. In the video, couple of people were allegedly taking money from hawkers.

Advocate Vivekananda Gupta shot the video around 5 pm on Tuesday when around two people were collecting money from each hawkers selling clothes, bags and other materials. “I saw two people were collecting money from hawkers. I shot video and also tried to lodge complaint with the Railway Police Force (RPF),” said Gupta. However, the RPF suggested to lodge complaint at Azad Maindan police station as the jurisdiction falls under them.

“Since I did not have time, I put the video on micro blogging site and Facebook,” said Gupta. He tweeted to chief minister office among others alleging that MCGM employees were extorting money which is violation of court orders.

Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner of A ward under which the subway falls said that the person collecting money in the video is not BMC employees. “I saw the video and I am sure that people collecting money are not civic official. They are might be local goons,” said Dighavkar. However, he added that the civic body will lodge a police complaint to investigate the incident. “We will now increase monitoring of such places in the ward,” Dighavkar added.
