Mayura Worlikar, a resident of Worli was going to her mother's house in Thane last week, but her normal one-hour journey was extended to more than three hours. The reason was, she couldn't book Ola and Uber cabs. She had her one and a half year-old son in her arms and was standing eagerly at the road hoping to get a cab. Finally she had to take the regular Kaali Peeli to reach Thane.

"Normally I use Ola or Uber to go to Thane from Worli, but last week, it was nothing but a nightmare when I had to wait for over an hour to get a cab, there was no Ola neither an Uber, finally I had get a Kaali Peeli, I couldn't use the train because I had my baby with me. Normally for shorter distance I don't mind kaali peeli, but not for this far a distance, however, I was left with no choice the other day and had to depend on a regular cab and that too without an Air condition, this was after a very long time that I depended on the old black and yellow cab," said Mayura.

For Darshan Kiran, he had to wait almost for two hours to get a cab on weekend, "Believe me or not, I waited for an hour for my first cab, who then refused to pick me up, he made me wait for an hour, then I again got another cab, who made me walk half the way, because he was scared that his car will be attacked if he came in the interiors. It took me more than two and half hours from booking the cab to reaching my office in Wadala on Weekend," he said.

While Kaali Peeli did spring up, with one of the driver stating that he's finding more rides and also a growth in revenue, there are many who are now moving towards Meru cab. "On Sunday after a visit to my friend's place, I decided to take an Ola or Uber for my way back home in Kalyan. Because of the strike there were no cars that I could find on their app. I couldn't book a single cab and I was in a fix what to do, as the last train had gone by then. However, that reminded me of a message I had received in the afternoon from Meru Cabs. This was the same cab service that I remember using during the pre Ola and Uber era," said one of the rider.

The driver had joined Meru on Sunday afternoon and he previously use to drive Ola and Uber both. "I had both Ola and Uber apps on my phone, but because of the strike, I decided to drive kaali peeli in the day time, a friend of mine suggested why don't I go for Meru too and that is how I went to their office today afternoon and got myself registered there," said the driver.

Meanwhile, the driver claimed that he spotted several other drivers who were present at Meru and were getting themselves registered. The driver claimed that getting the Meru registration didn't mean he is going to stop driving Ola and Uber, but in times like this he said it was a blessing in disguise as he cannot afford sitting at home and not earn. He claimed that in spite of it being a Sunday the Meru office at Andheri was open. surprisingly this driver use to earlier drive Meru before the Ola and Uber era.
