The Jalgaon sessions court on Wednesday convicted two youths who were arrested in March 2012 on charges of robbing and killing an on-duty medical officer and later cremating her dead body in order to dispose of the evidence.
The court awarded the prime accused with capital punishment and the other accused with life imprisonment.
The case dates back to March 12, 2012, when Dr Vijaya Chaudhary (48), a medical officer with the Jalgaon Civil Hospital was attacked and strangulated by Yuvraj Sable (28), an ambulance driver with the hospital, with help from his cousin Pankaj Sadanshiv (22) and friend Gulab Sindi (28).
After they burned her body in the crematorium, a suspicious watchman approached the police, following which the trio was arrested. Gulab became an approver and helped the prosecution with the case.
