Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s Masulla Building (aka Amina Mansion) at Pakmodia Street, Bhendi Bazaar, is all set to go under the hammer on August 9. The auction will be held on August 9 by the Ministry of Finance under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act (SAFEMA). The reserve price for the property Rs 79.43 lakh.

There are 9 properties that are being auctioned and of that one belongs to Dawood. A total of 20-25 people and organisations have come ahead for the all the nine properties, of which, sources say, three are for the Dawood property. The auction will be held at Yashwantrao Chavan Pratisthan near Mantralaya at 10 am.

A public notice was issued by SAFEMA last month, through which bids were invited under the Act for the sale of nine properties located in Mumbai, Aurangabad, Valsad, Daman, Surat and Ahmedabad. The owners of the other eight properties are not known. Sources said that Masulla Building (CS No 4275) at 24/26 Pakmodia Street and 28/29 Bapty Road, Bhendi Bazaar, belonged to Dawood’s family.

A senior official from SAFEMA said, “The auction has received good response. We cannot divulge details but we can only say that there are a total of 20-25 bidders who have come ahead for the 9 properties. The auction will begin at 10 am on Thursday.”

For the Dawood property, three bidders have shown interest and they even went and inspected the property located at Bhendi Bazaar. While the first is the Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust that is redeveloping Bhendi Bazaar, the other two includes Indira Tiwari of Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha and Bhupendra Bharadwaj, a Delhi resident.

When contacted, Tiwari said, “I will be there for the bidding process tomorrow morning.”

EARLIER AUCTION

In November last year, SBUT had won the three properties in an auction carried out by SAFEMA. The properties were the Shabnam Guest House, six flats in Damarwala building and restaurant Raunaq Afroz — all located in Bhendi Bzaar and belonged to the Don’s family.
