Cyber Crime Police on Sunday arrested a 40-year-old Chembur resident for allegedly creating 26 bogus email IDs to send defamatory email against a well-known insurance broking company where he previously worked. In May, the police had arrested Piyushkant Roy, another ex-employee of the company in the said case.
The arrested person has been identified as Vikas Kalyanam Narayan.
According to the police, in February, 2017, a complaint was lodged at Cyber Crime Police Station at BKC by the company officials that someone was spreading across defamatory messages against the company. As per the direction of Bombay High Court the case was marked to a special squad to probe.
The investigation revealed that Roy and Narayan conspired and impersonated and knowingly published false and malicious messages against the insurance broking company and its members, police said.
“Probe revealed that 26 bogus email IDs were prepared to send defamatory posts against the company. The said email IDs were being used from Kolkata. We contacted the internet service providers and got active Internet Protocol addresses and physical address of the user. Probe further revealed that the said emails were used by Roy, who is a former employee of the company,” said a police officer, refusing to divulge further details of the case.
“Roy and Narayan were involved in the crime. We are probing why they sent defamatory texts against the company. We have seized Narayan’s laptop and router,” said an officer from Cyber Crime Police Station.
