Mumbai cops to get Audi examined from RTO to bolster their case

"We will be getting the Audi examined from technical experts. We do not want to give any chance to the accused at the trial stage to claim that the accident took place due to a technical fault," said a police officer associated with the investigation.

In a bid to build a watertight case, the Mumbai police will get the Audi car of lawyer Janhavi Gadkar examined from Regional Transport Office (RTO) experts. This is mainly to ensure that Gadkar cannot claim in court at a later stage of the case that a technical glitch led to the fatal accident.

"We will be getting the Audi examined from technical experts. We do not want to give any chance to the accused at the trial stage to claim that the accident took place due to a technical fault," said a police officer associated with the investigation.

Until now, the Mumbai police had been putting up nakabandi on Eastern Freeway only during weekends, but the recent accident has forced them to derive a way that can curb the menace of speeding. "As a measure to avoid such mishaps in the future, we will be putting up nakabandis everyday at both ends of the Eastern Freeway," said a senior police officer.

Another major hurdle before the police is no CCTV cameras on the Freeway. "The issue of putting up CCTV cameras on the Freeway is still pending with the government. CCTVs always help investigators and its footage can be crucial part of evidence," the officer said.

Meanwhile, Gadkar may suffer a huge loss as the police say she won't be able to get insurance for her damaged vehicle. "She was driving drunk and the police will file a charge sheet in court against her. She won't get a single rupee from her vehicle's insurance cover," said the officer.
