Mumbai: Cops still clueless about identity of charred body

The Shivaji Nagar police have not yet been able to identify the charred body of a man which was recovered from in a pit near Nirankari Nagar at Govandi early Saturday morning. However, the post mortem report confirmed that the man was fist strangulated to death and later his body was burnt so that his identity is not revealed.

The Shivaji Nagar police have not yet been able to identify the charred body of a man which was recovered from in a pit near Nirankari Nagar at Govandi early Saturday morning. However, the post mortem report confirmed that the man was fist strangulated to death and later his body was burnt so that his identity is not revealed.

According to Shivaji Nagar police, the report said that the man was strangulated to death with a piece of cloth. "We have not yet been able to ascertain his identity, but the post mortem report has stated that the cause of death was strangulation," said an officer from Shivaji Nagar police station. He added: "When the body was recovered by the police, it was on fire. Therefore, we believe that the body was set ablaze just about a couple of hours before we recovered it."

The Shivaji Nagar police have registered a murder case and are investigating the case. "We are checking with people in the area and also with other police stations if any missing complaint was registered of a man in the age group of 35-40," said the officer.
