The DB Marg Police have busted a gang of cyber fraudsters accused of duping gullible victims by luring them into a bonus on their Life Insurance Policy.

Pranav Kumar, a 26-year old man from Thane's Ghodbandar area, had duped a 65-year-old former bank employee of Rs 3 lakh under the pretext of giving him bonus amount on his LIC policy that is soon to mature.

According to the police, the victim, Mehernash Barivaya's insurance policy was about to mature when one day he received a call from the accused disguised as an LIC executive. Kumar introduced Barivaya to a lucrative offer of 60 per cent bonus on the latter's insurance policy once it mature's.

The accused then told the victim that to avail the offer, he would have to transfer some amount in the given bank account. The victim agreed to the same and transferred Rs 3 lakh in different bank accounts given by the accused.

However, after transferring the money, Barivaya did not receive any communication from the accused. Upon inquiring with the LIC office, he realised that there was no such scheme.

"The victim approached us and we registered an FIR and started tracing the bank accounts. During the investigation, we traced Kumar and arrested him from Thane," said a police officer.

The police are on the lookout for more three persons who are suspected to be involved in the scam.
