A Khar boutique owner was booked for cheating and criminal breach of trust a week after a 27-year-old fashion designer alleged that she was raped by several people in Dubai last year for over 25 days.
Anjali Agarwal had offered the fashion designer a job in Dubai with a salary of Rs4 lakh per month.
“The victim reached Dubai on June 1 and she was confined in a room for 25 days and was raped by several people,” said the victim’s advocate Avinash Dube.
The Kandivli woman returned to the city on July 5 but she did not approach the police immediately as she was scared of the ‘taint’. Dube said the police are not taking the case seriously and they have only booked the boutique owner although the victim was forced into prostitution and was raped on several occasion by several men in Dubai.
Senior police inspector Vikash Sonawane of Khar police station said: “We have not arrested boutique owner Anjali Agarwal. We have booked her for cheating and criminal breach of trust and are verifying the facts.”
Sonawane added that they were also taking the government advocate’s opinion about the rape charges and other relevant sections.
“The police are not investigating properly. After a week of filing the complaint, they called the suspect and recorded her statement. They only booked the boutique owner and have not added names of other suspects,” added Dube.
“The police can send the case to Dubai through the embassy for further investigation,” he added.
