Gangaram Kamble, former police sub-inspector at Shivaji Nagar police station has resigned from the Mumbai Police to contest as an independent candidate in the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls.
Kamble hopes to contest from ward number 139 in the Shivaji Nagar area, where he stays. After working for more than 30 years in the police force, Kamble is all set to enter politics and strive to 'bring about a change in society'.

"I had tendered my resignation from the post of police sub-inspector on October 8 last year, and it was accepted on January 5. Now I want to work for the society," said Kamble.

"I served in the police force for 30 years, and during this span of time, I have seen many crimes. In my experience, most of the criminals come from a poor economic background. I was also involved in social work, and since only a few years were remaining for my retirement, I wanted to bring about a change in the society. I decided to enter into politics and fight in the BMC elections," Kamble told DNA.

"He (Kamble) had three-and-a-half years of service left to complete, but he wanted to join politics. Our best wishes are with him. We hope he will be successful," said Bhima Shankar Dhole, senior police inspector of Shivaji Nagar Police station.

Kamble joined the police force in 1985 as a police constable and was promoted to police sub inspector in 2014 at the Shivaji Nagar Police station.
