Mumbai: Consumer forum penalises cab for not reaching complainant to airport in time

The forum has thus asked the cab firm to pay for the extra flight ticket charges which the complainant had to pay.

The Mumbai Suburban district's consumer dispute redressal forum has penalised a cab firm, Mega Cabs who failed to drop its consumer to the destination in its estimated time, because of which the complainant missed his flight.

The forum has thus asked the cab firm to pay for the extra flight ticket charges which the complainant had to pay. The firm is also asked to pay for the extra expense of lodging which the complainant occurred due to the flight miss.

Vilas Dange, a resident of Sewri had booked a cab on July 7, 2011, as his wife and son were about to go to Chennai to get his son's admission in a Chennai based college. The cab was booked for 5 o'clock in the morning. The cab was delayed by half an hour, because of which the complainant's wife and son missed their flight. The complainant then had no other option but to book new tickets. Also because of the delayed time, the mother son had to wait till the next day for their admission, as the college too had shut by the time the two reached Chennai.

The complainant sought money for the extra expense which he had occurred towards he flight tickets and lodging.

The forum after going through the evidence asked the firm to file its reply, but it did not respond to the forum's notice.

The forum, thus asked the firm to pay Rs 32,918 towards the hotel and flight charges occurred to the complainant, along with nine percent interest on the amount from the year 2011.

The forum has also asked the for to pay an additional amount of Rs 15,000 and Rs 2,000 towards the complainant's mental agony and litigation charges, respectively.
