Two years after a woman was duped by a man of Rs 25 lakh on a matrimonial site, the Maharashtra State Women's Commission has finally taken cognisance of the matter and directed the Mumbai Police to submit an investigation report. The accused had allegedly promised to marry the victim, who approached the Charkop Police to file a complaint only face their reluctance.

In 2016, a Mumbai-based 34-year-old woman had met a man on a matrimonial site. Within four months' time, the man had taken Rs 25 lakh from the victim by promising marriage but was untraceable after he was paid the amount.

The woman had then approached the Charkop Police asking them to investigate the case and register an FIR in the matter, however, the police allegedly did not register a case.

The woman had then met senior police officers and requested them to register the FIR. Yet, instead of filing the case, police officers allegedly asked her to forget the cheating and move on.

According to the State Women's Commission, the victim was thereby frustrated and depressed. "After considering her plight, we have sent a letter to senior police inspector of Charkop Police and have asked them to submit to us the case reports," said Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar.
