The first weekday run of Mumbai's first closed door local train was a non-starter on Monday, as the train had to be sent for maintenance.

Speaking to DNA, Shailendra Kumar, divisional railway manager, Western Railway said that the rake (railway lingo for a train) was scheduled for its IC Zero test - a safety test mandatory within a stipulated time frame for all trains- on Monday.

"It has nothing to do with the closed door. It is working fine. It is just that this IC Zero maintenance schedule is something that is of utmost importance. The train's maintenance schedule got over at 5:30pm on Monday and it will run on its normal routine from Tuesday," Kumar told DNA.

The rake, which has had one set of automatic sliding doors (ASD) fitted in the ladies coach was tested on Friday and then put on regular use on Sunday. However with Sunday crowds being sparse, the railway officials were looking forward to its performance on Monday when the infamous Mumbai suburban weekday rush takes over.
