Mumbai: Clash between DCP & Lalbaugcha Raja volunteers over queue mismanagement

City's most popular Ganpati landed up in controversy after the police officers including a senior rank official and the volunteers of Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal got into a heated argument. The incident was reported on Tuesday afternoon when mismanagement of queue of devotees resulted in an outrageous eruption of a brawl between the two.

According to police reports, the queue of devotees lined up for darshan was not on order. While the queue was not moving ahead for quite some time, some people were moving in the opposite direction of the line thereby creating disruptions. The police team present at the spot asked the mandal volunteers to resolve the issue but in vain. After continuous persistence, the volunteers rushed to the barricade and began indulged in a heated argument with the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone III, Abhinash Kumar who was present at the spot too got involved in the scuffle. Kumar was even spotted trying to climb the barricade to get hold of some volunteers. However, the matter got sorted out quickly.

"The issue was basically regarding the order of the line and the management of people coming for darshan inside the pandal. We are examining the CCTV footage so as to see what exactly happened and what infuriated the police. As of now no case has been registered and the situation is under control," said DCP, (Operations) Manjunath Shinge.

ANOTHER SCUFFLE

In a similar incident on Monday, senior police inspector of Sahar police station Lata Shirsat and volunteers of a sarvajanik mandal got into a scuffle over issues relating to immersion procession
