The 21-year-old man man arrested by DB Marg police on Saturday, for allegedly calling up on the National Security Guards (NSG) control room in Delhi and stating that chemical attack would take place on Prime Minister Narendra Modi was produced before a local court on Monday which remanded him to judicial custody.

The NSG shared information with Mumbai police as the caller's location was in Mumbai. The suspect was picked up and grilled by the security agencies after which he admitted having made the said call in order to create fear in society, communal tension and create enmity among citizens.

The arrested person has been identified as Kashinath Gunadhar Mandal, a security guard by profession and resident of Thari in Dumka district of Jharkhand.

According to the police sources, on Friday around 5.33 pm, NSG control room had received a phone call from an unknown number (9137382458). The caller had stated in Hindi "PM saahab ke oopar chemical attack hone wala hai" (A chemical attack would take place on PM sir). The agency learnt that the SIM card holder's address was of Hughes Road in Mumbai. The information was then immediately shared with Mumbai Police.

A team of DB Marg police was immediately rushed to the spot at Hughes Road, but the suspect could not be found there. The police then sought technical help and tracked tower location of the number at Mumbai Central Railway Terminus. The police then managed to apprehend the suspect and he was then brought to the police station for questioning, sources said.

On questioning Mandal said that he had been working as a security guard with Om Security Services since past seven months and was last posted at a mobile shop at Charni Road. He claimed he had left the job a fortnight ago, police said.

"He said he wanted to create fear in society, communal tension and enmity among people and hence he made the said call. Mandal said he aware that police would trail him and hence he was planning to leave for his village by boarding a train from Mumbai Central Terminus," said an officer who interrogated Mandal.

The police had seized two mobile phones from Mandal and one of them had number of NSG control room in it's dial list. The police have registered an offence against Mandal and are probing if Mandal have any associates or is associated with any criminal syndicate.

"Mandal did not reveal why he wanted to create communal tension," said a police officer on Monday.
