Yellow Gate police recently filed chargesheet in the court against eight Pakistan nationals who were caught mid-sea by the Indian coast guard officials in April last year with 232 kilograms of heroine worth Rs600 crore in international market value.
The police have come across three Pakistani handlers during their probe and would soon be initiating the procedure to get Red Corner Notices (RCNs) issued against them.
"We have recently filed chargesheet against eight Pakistan nationals whom were caught with the contraband and are in the process to issue RCNs against three wanted Pakistani handlers identified as Shaukat Ali (33), Zafar Iqbal Mohammad Aslam Amin (38) and Imran Khan Pathan," said deputy commissioner of police, Port Zone, Kirankumar Chavan.
On April 20, 2015 the Indian coast guard and the Navy had intercepted a Pakistani boat Al-Yasir that was ferrying a huge quantity of heroin. A total of 232 packets of heroin weighing one kilogram each were hidden in plastic cans. Besides heroin, three satellite phones, two global positioning systems and one electronic navigation chart were also recovered.
The police had arrested Pakistani nationals Maqsood Akhtar Yusuf Masim (39), Mohammad Baksh Natho (38), Alibakhsh Allahbakhsh Khashkeli (30), Mohammad Ahmed Mohammad Inayat (28), Mohammad Yusuf Abdullah Gagawani (45), Mohammad Yunus Haji Mohammad Sumar (35), Mohammad Gulhasan Maulabakhsh Baloch (30) and Gulhasan Mohammad Siddiq (40) from the boat.
"Interrogations from the arrested persons revealed that the consignment was given to them by Karachi residents identified as Shaukat Ali and Zafar Iqbal. The Pakistani vessel that has been seized belongs to Iqbal. While searching the vessel we came across Iqbal's photograph in a vessel registration document of Pakistan Maritime Board," said a police officer.
As per the police, when the vessel was about to start its journey from Khudi Khai bay at Karachi port, Shaukat and Iqbal had told those on the vessel that the consignment was a dangerous chemical and that utmost care should be taken during the journey.
The arrested persons had claimed that they were only workers of Shaukat and Iqbal and were unaware that the consignment was drugs and not chemical. As per the police, Shaukat and Iqbal had promised to give Pakistani Rs50,000 each to those on the vessel for successful delivery and had also given them Pakistani Rs10,000 each in advance.
"Those on the vessel were told by Shaukat and Iqbal that the consignment would be off-loaded by another vessel in the mid sea and would be then taken to Dubai. Shaukat and Iqbal had only provided number of Imran Khan Pathan, who was supposed to take delivery of consignment in mid-sea. Maqsood was taking directions of navigation from Pathan over the satellite phone. They had communicated at least six times," the officer said
Maqsood, a resident of Labour Colony in Karachi, who was leading the crew has told the police that he had been working with Shaukat since the past two years. "As per Maqsood, both Shaukat and Iqbal own several fishing boats and are well-off people owning luxury cars. We suspect that some big drug syndicate from Pakistan had used fishing network of Shaukat and Iqbal to smuggle their contraband. The probe has hit a dead-end as those arrested have no other details about the consignment and its recipient," said an officer.
