A 28-year-old realty businessman committed suicide by hanging himself at his mother's residence in Bandra (West), not before alerting his wife about his decision via SMS. The incident happened on Friday around 11am in the Waroda Road area. According to the police, the deceased, Ali Abbas Barodawala, was depressed as he was under huge debt.

At the time of the incident, he was alone in his mother's flat, his wife was in her house. "The deceased did not leave any suicide note. But he did send an SMS to his wife, asking her to take care of herself and that he may not be able to live anymore as he is depressed, after which he took the extreme step," said Ramchandra Dhawle, senior inspector of Bandra police.

His wife went to the house immediately and, when her knocks went unanswered, she feared the worst. She immediately called out to the neighbours and, then, used a duplicate key to open the door. "He was found hanging by the ceiling fan in the living room. He was rushed to Cooper hospital, where he was declared dead before admission," said Dhawle.

A case of accidental death has been registered and the police said according to the wife, Barodawala was under a lot of stress because of the huge debts he had incurred in his business. "We are verifying the text he sent her before the act, which will be taken as proof that there was no foul play and that it was suicide," added Dhawle.
