Heavy rains across the city not only left parents in a  state of panic, but also many educational institutions. Schools let students go back home as soon as parents approached, and declared holiday for afternoon batches.

Rains also affected examinations under the University of Mumbai, as many students could not reach the respective exam centres.

However, school buses decided to change their routes to ensure children’s safety after a part of the footpath collapsed on Andheri flyover. The Mumbai University decided to çonduct exams again for those who failed to reach examination centres, on Tuesday morning.

Girija Mohan, Director of Chatrabhuj Narsee Memorial School, Vile Parle, said, “Many parents are coming and taking away their children. Since it is heavily raining in city, there is waterlogging in nearby areas. Hence we decided to not hold school for the afternoon batch.”

Since a part of the footpath at Andheri flyover collapsed on Tuesday, the school buses have diverted their routes to ensure due safety of all the children.

Anil Garg, Chairman of School Bus Owners Association, Mumbai, said, “Buses ferrying children in Andheri have decided to change their route and take the Irla bridge instead of Andheri bridge due to collapse of part of its footpath on railway tracks to ensure students’ safety.
