Saturday, 15 March 2014 - 6:00am IST | Place: Mumbai | Agency: dna

By the end of Friday, residents of Catherine chawl were looking for answer to only question: What wrong had we done? The collapse of the adjoining seven-storey building led to debris crashing down on their houses, killing their near and dear ones.

Thirty-two-year-old Sudha Shreedharan, who lived on the ground floor, lost her life. She was alone in the her house when the tragedy unfolded. At the neighbouring building, 50-year-old Chandan Patel was in the kitchen at the time. She too perished. Her husband Kanti Bhai and their two sons were out for work.

"The adjoining building was unsafe and BMC had warned us about the repercussion. But a resident of Shankar Lok had moved court against eviction. I have lost my wife due to someone else's fault," said Kanti bhai.

Sandhya, a lawyer, who had got a stay against eviction and demolition was shaken by her sister's death and refused to talk to the media.
