A reputed builder, who was a Matunga resident, allegedly committed suicide by jumping off from the 15th floor of his residence on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Mukesh Savla (56) and the police claim that he jumped from the gallery of his apartment in Laxmi Niketa building, which was constructed by him a few years ago.

According to the police, Savla was staying with his wife and he had no children. Entire 15th floor of the said building was Savla's property, while his parents live in Goregaon. The police suspect that Savla was under depression and suffered financial losses. For over a month, he had no communication with anyone from his cell phone. Also, Savla's wife was not keeping well health-wise which might have added more depression for him, said police.

"At the time of the incident, Savla's wife was present at home and the security at the entrance of the building heard a loud thud at around 3.15 pm and when checked, Savla's body was lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately rushed to Sion hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the doctors. We have not recovered any suicide note from his residence but we have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the case and further investigation is underway," said senior police officer of Matunga police station, Bharat Bhoite.

Another developer from Mumbai said, "It is indeed shocking to hear the news. We expect that the police comes out with a suitable conclusion regarding the reason behind the suicide. We expect clarification as early as possible,"
