Water situation in the city, though manageable, BMC wants to take precautionary measures as the monsoon days ahead may not yield thatmuch water which will last until next mid June

Citizens are wary about the days ahead as during festivals there are lot of visitors. "We have Onam celebration tomorrow and my son and daughter in law have come down from USA. we have lot of guest who want to meet them. So a gathering at home was best option. Now with water cut we will get only half an water supply. We have decided to use disposable plates and bowls for lunch and will order mineral water to bridge the gap", said a Charkop residents in Kandivali - West.

Shobha Aghavane, beautician from Malvani - Malad said that the basic requirement in her profession is water to ensure cleanliness. "If I buy water from private tanker, I will have to incur too much of money each day. I don't know what will happen in coming days", said Shobha.

She also added that during Ganeshotsav people have lot of visitors and celebrations means lots of food and food means lot of water requirement. "But this festival god knows what will be our situation".

Noella Varela, civic activist from Malavani Malad said that there was already undeclared water cut and water pressure in our area was very slow. "Now with official water cut we will have to face more water cut. Which mean either acute water shortage or no water on alternative days. We all residents are planning to approach the water department of our ward and will demand to know about the water supply issues", she said adding that there are very few bore wells in our area due to salty and hard water table.

Noella also said that from September 8, next month we have Mother Mary feast. How will manage the festival season. Though as responsible citizens we will use water judiciously, we get very low water pressure.

However, Ashok Tawadia Hydraulic Engineer of the BMC said we will assess the situation again at the end of September and then take further decision.
