When Eman Ahmed was being wheeled out in the Lourano chair that was specially brought for her from the UK, chaos descended upon the lobby of Saifee Hospital, with cameras and reporters making a beeline for her. Everyone wanted a glimpse of her and to know whether she has really lost 300 kg.

Eman left Saifee around 12.30 pm, accompanied by her sister Shaimaa, for VPS Healthcare's Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi. "I am thankful to India and the doctors in India for helping Eman," Shaimaa said. But all the pushing and shoving going on left the engineer from Alexandria — who left no stone unturned to ensure that the best doctors in the world treated her sister — close to tears.

Earlier in the day, Shaimaa reportedly refused to sign certain papers related to consent, which delayed her sister being discharged. A distress call to Maharashtra's Health Minister Dr Deepak Sawant brought the issue under control, but both the minister and Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, the doctor who treated Eman, played down the incident.

The doctors at Burjeel Hospital maintained that Eman's safety is their first priority and they remained tight-lipped about their treatment plan for her. A team of nine specialists from the hospital were in Mumbai, led by Sanet Meyer, the director of VPS Healthcare's Medevac (medical evacuation) division. Clad in blue, she led the negotiations with her Saifee Hospital counterparts, which at times got heated.

Meanwhile, three out of the seven children who Dr Lakdawala has referred to as 'baby Emans' reached Mumbai for treatment from Gujarat's Vajdi district on Thursday morning. The siblings — Yogita, 7, who weighs 45 kg, Amisha, 6, who weighs 67 kg, and Harsh, 3, who already weighs around 25 kg — will be put on a drug trial by a US-based drug manufacturer.

"They will not undergo any surgery. They are already having trouble walking and we will try to ensure that they don't reach the condition that Eman is currently is in," Dr Lakdawala said.
