The government is talking big about road safety but this incident proves the lawlessness in Mumbai. On Thursday, a video went viral where an auto rickshaw driver physically assaulted a passenger at Bandra Kurla Complex after he allegedly refused to pay higher fares.

The Andheri RTO officers said that the driver has been identified as Vinod Kumar Rai, a resident of Dnyaneshwar Nagar, Bandra. While the auto rickshaw owner name is Kamal Bahadur Shaikh, a resident of Bharat Nagar, Bandra East.

Sources said that notice has been served to the auto rickshaw owner for suspension of permit and to the driver for suspension of his driving licence and batch. The passenger refused to pay higher fare than RTO approved fare for share auto ride from Kurla to BKC.

The auto drivers charge Rs 30 per seat from Kurla station, though RTO approved rate is much less. Auto rickshaw in BKC, Bandra and Kurla are a menace who bully passengers and overcharge blatantly.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Transport Minister Diwakar Raote appealed commuters to click the picture of the auto rickshaw on which they are going travel and sent it to their friends or relatives; especially women commuters. He also ordered stringent action against the autorickshaw driver involved in the act.
