After Thane motorists formed a human chain to protest against traffic congestion, bad roads and other issues plaguing Thane, the authorities have finally sprung into action. While the Public Works Department deployed more men to repair potholes on the Eastern Express Highway, the Thane Municipal Corporation started a drive to seize unclaimed vehicles parked on the roads.

On Tuesday, over 200 Thane residents came together near Anandnagar toll naka in Mulund East to form a human chain. Growing tired of the authorities turning a blind eye, they decided to stage this protest. "I also saw over 60 to 70 people from the PWD repairing the stretch from Kopri Bridge towards the toll naka on Thursday," said Kasber Augustine, president, Thane Citizens Foundation (TCF), which organised the protest. "There are many two-wheelers four wheelers lying unclaimed on Thane roads causing traffic jams," said Sandip Malvi, Public Relations Officer, TMC. "Starting Thursday we have seized and towed away over 42 such vehicles to ease the traffic situation in Thane. We will also seize vehicles parked in no-parking zones henceforth," he added.

Residents welcome this move of TMC to decongest the roads. "Awareness should be created among citizens and housing societies who can help the authorities to identify abandoned vehicles and report them," said Reny Varghese, a resident of Ghodbunder Road. "They should also come up with a solution for effective scrapping of old vehicles if they fall in this category,
