In its crackdown against drug peddlers operating out of school and college campuses, Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai police arrested 13 drug peddlers in 24 hours. The arrested persons include five women. The agency has seized drugs worth Rs 36 lakh. The seized drugs included marijuana, heroin and pharmaceutical drugs.
On January 31, a Ghatkopar ANC Unit team led by inspector Shashank Shelke laid traps near various schools at Shivaji Nagar and RCF Colony in Chembur and arrested Mohammad Mehtab Abdul Kudrus Shaikh (23), Mohammad Ismail Rashid Shaikh (39), Fatima Chandbadshah Sayyad (40) and Nasim Wasim Shaikh (32)
The police had seized 19 gram of heroin worth Rs 1.90 lakh, 135 bottles of cough syrup containing codeine phosphate worth Rs 27,000 and 800 gram of cannabis worth Rs 16,000.
The same day, a team of Azad Maidan ANC Unit laid a trap near Grant Road Railway Station and arrested Babu Dastgir Ibrahim Shaikh (42) and Sita Rakesh Dhobi (40) and had seized 250 gram of cannabis from him.
A team of officers from Bandra ANC Unit on same day arrested one Lambiraj Murgan Konar (19) from Saki Naka in Andheri (East) and seized 500-gram cannabis from him.
On Friday, a team of officers from Kandivali ANC Unit led by inspector Pravin Kadam laid a trap in Dahisar area and arrested Laxmi Bhaskar Volandas alias Boss (40), Sampurna Gandhi Mistry (40) and Bharat Vijay Shah (39) and have seized 70 kilogram of cannabis worth Rs 28 lakh from them collectively.
The same day,a team of Worli Unit of ANC led by inspector Ninad Sawant arrested one Nagesh Prakash Thakur (34) from Mazagaon and seized 12,600 Alprazolam tablets having a total value of Rs 2.52 lakh and Rexo Chlorpheniramine maleate and codeine phosphate syrup 100 Ml, total 46 bottles having a total value of Rs 9,200.
Later the same day, a team of Bandra ANC unit led by inspector Anil Wadhawane arrested one Shahbaz Bashir Shaikh (24) from Bandra and seized 48 gram of heroin worth Rs 2.88 lakh.
