The Jain community on Sunday celebrated 100th birth anniversary of one of their Jain monks by announcing measures for the community in Mumbai. The event was organised at Santa Cruz Jain Temple that saw the celebration of late Vikramsuriswar Maharajsaheb organised by his disciple Rajyashsuriswar Maharajsaheb.

"As part of the celebration, the community decided to take care of one-year ration expenses of as many as 100 poor Jain families," said Sanjay Shah, member of Jain minorities, who was in-charge of the celebration.

The event also saw the presence of prominent BJP leaders like Amit Shah, president of Bharatiya Janata Party, among others. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was to attend the event, skipped the meet for some official reasons.

Shah, who had come all the way from Delhi to attend the function, reached the venue on time. He spoke to the monk's disciple — one who organised the event — for over half an hour.

The event started after a delay of 60 minutes and Shah left without addressing the crowd as he had to catch a flight. While official reason given was that he could not speak because of elections in Ahmedabad, the organisers, however, conceded that, "the initial program of introduction also took a lot of time."
