Mumbai- 791 policemen guarded VIPs in two months

A total of 791 policemen, including officers, have guarded 57 important dignitaries in the city. And the figure is only for the month of October and November when a number of them were in Mumbai for the swearing-in ceremony of the new government. The security cover was provided by protection and security branch of Mumbai police.

The information was provided to Pune-based activist Vihar Durve. The number of police personnel were for those in the Z+ and Z category security. In October, there were 15 dignitaries with Z+ security while 17 with Z category security in the city. During this month, the total number of police personnel guarding them were 384.

In November, the number of people with Z+ security stood at 16 while of those with Z scurity were 17. The total number of police personnel guarding them increased to 407. As per the rules, policemen are supposed to prove free protection cover to dignitaries and their duty hour is of 12 hours. "At any given time, we had so many police personnel less securing the citizens of city," said Durve.
