Mumbai: 70-year-old Oshiwara man killed in hit-and-run accident

A 70-year-old man died after he was hit by an unidentified four-wheeler in Oshiwara. The Oshiwara police has registered a case against the unknown driver, who is on the run.

The incident happened early on Sunday when the victim, Kashinath Vichare, was walking near Lotus petrol pump, close to Oriental College on New Link Road.

According to eyewitnesses, a speeding four-wheeler which a few claimed to be a car while others say was a tempo, hit Vichare around 6 am while he was trying to cross the road, said the police. He was on his way to work.
Before passersby rushed to Vichare's aid to take him to hospital, the driver had fled the spot. At the hospital, Vichare was declared dead before admission due to multiple injuries. The police traced his family's contact number and informed them, after which his son claimed the body.

A police officer said, "We have registered a case of death due to negligence under section 304 A and rash driving under section 270 of the Indian Penal Code against the unknown driver. We do not have the registration number of the vehicle, which is either a car or a tempo. We are trying to find out if any CCTV recorded the incident."The deceased lived with his family in Ganesh Nagar area in Oshiwara. He held a managerial post in a housing society.
