A 40-year-old lady, identified as Vishwakarma, was arrested by the detection sleuths of the crime branch and police officials from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) railway police station for kidnapping a toddler, thereby solving the case within 24 hours.

According to the cops, the accused have been identified as Parvatidevi Vishwakarma who is a Diva resident. In her complaint, the mother of the abducted kid, Vimal Satdive, had alleged that on Sunday, she went to CSMT to board a train to her village in Aurangabad. She was accompanied by her son, Sunny and she was waiting for her husband in the waiting room. Following a midnight schedule of the train, she fell asleep and on waking up, she found her son to be missing.

Satdive then approached the CSMT railway police and registered a complainant. The cops immediately swung into action and launched a hunt to locate the child. In a CCTV footage, they saw a lady picking the kid up and boarding a train. After realising that she was on her way to Nallasopara they started tracking the lady.

The footage at Nallasopara station showed her getting off and taking an autorickshaw during wee hours of Saturday. The autorickshaw driver Manoj Srivastava guided them to the point where he had dropped them off. After seeking her whereabouts from locals, the lady was arrested.

"The lady, who has been arrested was married for 20 years and did not bear any child because of which she regularly had fights with her husband. In order to avoid suspicion, she told others in the neighbourhood that she adopted the child through an NGO. She took Sunny only to raise him like her own child. As of now Vishwakarma has been remanded to police custody and was booked under section 363 of the Indian Penal Code," said Purushottam Karad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Western Railway).
