18-yr-old girl flung off bike in Goregaon; 19-yr-old boy meets his end after truck hits him in Chembur

An 18-year-old girl died and her friend sustained injuries after a truck rammed into the bike they were riding on in Goregaon East around 5:30pm on Monday. The accident took place on Aarey flyover on the Western Express Highway. The driver of the truck fled after abandoning the vehicle.

The deceased, Rakshanda Chaudhari, was riding pillion with Akshay Balal, 19, on when a truck hit their two-wheeler. As the biker lost control, he and the girl were  thrown off the bike.

Both were taken to a nearby hospital where the girl was declared ‘dead before admission’. She died due to severe head injuries. As for  Balal, he has sustained multiple injuries and is out of danger. He has been shifted to to the civic-run Nair Hospital in Mumbai Central where his mother works.

A case of rash driving and causing death due to negligence has been registered at Vanrai police station against the unidentified driver of the truck.

The teenagers were students of a junior college in the suburbs, said the police. “Balal, who had recently bought the bike, said that a truck hit the bike from behind and that the  truck ran over the girl. We are scanning CCTV footage to verify this,” said senior inspector Motiram Kadam of Vanrai police station.
