Mumbai: 3 in a family die of food poisoning

The matter is under investigation at Vinoba Bhave Nagar police station.

Three persons of a family who had died in Kurla (West) on Saturday was due to food poisoning. The cause of death has been confirmed from the post mortem reports. 

Joseph Makasare (52), his wife Smita (45) and their son Michael (22), started vomiting incessantly after dinner on Friday evening. Joseph called the family doctor who provided them with medication. On Saturday morning, however, the family had no respite. The bouts of vomiting continued. They were later admitted to a civic-run hospital, where Joseph and Michael died on Saturday afternoon and Smita died around midnight.

The post mortem of the deceased was carried out at civic-run Rajawadi and Sion hospitals. The matter is under investigation at Vinoba Bhave Nagar police station. The Makasare family had consumed a vegetable preparation of brinjals for dinner. It is yet unclear as to what could have caused food poisoning, said the police.

The police has collected food samples from the deceased sent them to the Forensic Science Laboratory for further analysis.
