Mumbai: 29-year-old Bengaluru pianist Karan Joseph commits suicide in Bandra

A 29-year-old musician committed suicide by jumping off the 12th floor of a building in Mumbai on Saturday. 

The victim has been identified as Karan Joseph, a resident of Bengaluru.

According to the police, Karan had been living in the 12th floor of Concord building Bandra for the past one month. He was staying with his friend Rishi Shah.

On Saturday morning, while Shah and some other friends were watching television, Karan suddenly got up rushed to the window and jumped off. His friends immediately called the police. Karan was rushed to Bhabha Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

"An Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered at Bandra police station. Besides, his mobile phone will also be sent to the forensic lab. We are carrying out initial inquiry in the matter," said Rashmi Karandikar, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Mumbai police spokesperson.

Karan's parents have been informed, to take custody of his body.

A number of stalwarts in the industry paid tribute to him. “Karan Joseph was a genius. Should have been far more celebrated than he was. It's really unfair, how the music scene works in India,” tweeted Vishal Dadlani.
