The arrested person has been identified as Bharat Nitin Das alias Sonu Khadda.
City crime branch sleuths have solved the murder case of a Borivali resident on July 30. The arrested 20-year-old man told the police that the deceased person, who was a local goon, used to extort money from local hawkers and irked with repeated oppression, he commited the alleged murder.
The arrested person has been identified as Bharat Nitin Das alias Sonu Khadda.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Ashutosh Dumbare, on July 30, around 9:30 pm, few unknown people had murdered one Ambadas alias Ambu Laxman Shinde, 29, a local resident, at Shivaji Nagar slums at Shimpoli Road in Borivali (W). Shinde's wife had registered a case of murder against unknown persons at Borivali Police Station.
"We made inquiries with locals and also checked nearby CCTV footage of the spot but could not get any leads in the case. We received a tip off that one of the suspects in the case would be arriving at Dahisar check naka to meet his friend after which we laid a trap at the spot since July 31," said Senior Police Inspector, Chimaji Adhav from Kandivali Unit of Crime Branch.
He added, "Our efforts paid off when suspect Bharat Das arrived at the spot on Friday and was picked up by the police team. Das admitted during interrogation that he had eliminated Shinde with the help of his accomplices."
Das told the police that Shinde was a local goon and he would extort money from hawkers. "Das told us that on the night of the incident too, Shinde had demanded money and mobile phone Das and his accomplices. When they refused to meet Shinde's demand, he assaulted them. In a fit of rage, Das and his accomplices then attacked Shinde with a sharp weapon and bludgeoned him to death. Efforts are on to trace other suspects involved in the case," said Adhav.
