Mumbai: 16,000 litres of illegal liquor seized in last one month

The cost of the liquor is around Rs 18 lakh. There are 142 cases registered from March 11 to April 15 and 128 persons have been arrested in the same.

Amid in the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) set for the Lok Sabha election, the state department of revenue has seized 16,000 litres of illegal liquor from the city. The cost of the liquor is around Rs 18 lakh. There are 142 cases registered from March 11 to April 15 and 128 persons have been arrested in the same.

According to a statement released by the district collector and election officer, the seizures and arrests were made during various raids across the city in the last one month. There were 93 cases registered from March 11 to March 31. In this period 9,924 litres of illegal liquor stock was seized which was worth Rs 9.50 lakhs and 84 persons were arrested in these cases. From April 1 to April 15, the department acted against 44 persons while seizing 6,140 litres of illegal liquor of the cost of Rs 8.53 lakh.

It includes 617 of country liquor, 13,200 litres of wash chemical which is used to make liquor, 524 litres of locally made country liquor, 218 litres of liquor, 252 litres of beer, 1194 litre of tari. Even five vehicles of the cost of Rs. 2 lakh 55 thousand seized during the action.
