16-yr-old fell from home’s balcony in a Tardeo building; cops probe what led to fatal mishap
Nearly a fortnight after a 13 year-old boy fell to death from an upmarket building in Lower Parel, a similar incident has been reported in Tardeo where a 16 year-old girl fell from the 23rd floor of her residence during the wee hours of Friday.
The deceased identified as Priyanka Kothari was found dead by a security personnel of The Imperial building at Tardeo. The Tardeo Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the case and is probing what led to the fatal mishap.
Kothari, who was staying with her family was a class ten student and is survived by her father Amrish, a diamond merchant and gold trader, her mother and a younger brother. The family had hired two full-time servants who worked and stayed in the duplex apartment. According to the police probe, she might have committed suicide for some unknown reason. The family had moved into the flat four years ago.
As per the statements given by the concerned people in the case, Kothari was found lying in a pool of blood on Friday night at around 2 am after which the on-duty security guard first alerted the police control room and later her body was rushed to Nair hospital where she was declared dead before admission. The police began to search for the girl's identity and approached all residents of the building by showing a photograph of the body and later. Kothari was then identified by her family.
"The girl's father was in Delhi for his business work and on Friday night, the girl had gone out with her friends for a get-together at Peddar Road in south Mumbai so she came back around 11.45 pm. One of the maids who was working for the family for quite a long time opened the door and the girl headed straight to her bedroom and locked the door. Other family members were asleep. After a while, a security guard who was on his routine supervision, spotted a body lying in the lawn. The guard first informed the police control room and later the body was sent to Nair hospital. Photographs of the body were circulated among our staff and the police later informed the family who were not aware of the mishap." said senior police inspector of Tardeo police station, Sanjay Surve.
"We are still trying to find out if the girl committed suicide or fell accidentally as no suicide note has been recovered from the spot. The sliding window in the room opens up to the balcony which has no safety grills. Also it is not yet clear what was the girl doing near the balcony. Her cell phone shall be checked and her friends shall be probed. The CCTV footage of the building is also being scrutinised for further leads. The body has been handed over to the family and necessary investigation is being carried out to establish the cause of death." Surve added.
