Thirty one inspiring women, who have been change-agents in the society but whose contributions have gone unnoticed, will be presented the ‘Rangoli Awards - extraordinary stories of the girl next door’ by UNIMO Universe of Moms on Sunday. 

The event which is powered by DNA will be held at the Taj Hotel in Santacruz. UNIMO Universe of Moms is an online community of mothers which has around 1.60 lakh mothers as members. They have taken the initiative to felicitate everyday stars. The world’s largest and fastest growing community, it conducts a meet every month in different cities to ensure that women’s work is celebrated. 

UNIMO is present in Mumbai, Indore, Delhi, Kolkata, Pune, Gujarat, Dubai, and Singapore.

Founder of UNIMO, Neha Kare Kanabar, said, “The fear of not measuring up or the feeling that women are not worthy of brilliance causes us to deflect attention and to avoid being noticed or celebrated. The intention of this event is to encourage all women to step out with faith and new-found confidence into the spotlight of life, and boldly claim their place in it.” 

The women selected for the award belong to various professions such as teachers, mothers, grandmothers, doctors, nurses, lawyers, entrepreneurs, designers, artists, writers, dancers and daughters. The name of the award (Rangoli) reflects the symbol of joy, prosperity, colours, and all other characteristics that depict everyday woman. The aim of conducting the awards is to ‘recognise the glory in the ordinary and to inspire, delight, and astound each other with their magnificence’.

Nominations have been invited from all over the world. The 31 awardees will be given an opportunity to share their story, and will also be felicitated by renowned and esteem guests like Dr Sandesh Mayekar (dental surgeon), Pooja Bedi (film star), Anju Kishchandani (sex educator and producer), Swati Mayekar (FICCI flow Chairperson) and Mona Sheth (editor Chitralekha). The event will be compered by former Miss India, Simrat Deenz Ahuja.
