The terms mangroves and salt pans was synonymous with Mulund few years ago, today the central suburbs has become a maze of malls, multiplexes and mind-boggling traffic. Even as builders and civic officials tout it as the much-sought after suburb to live and do business, locals are fed-up of the frequent traffic snarls and double parking problem on most roads.

After the recent Tilak Nagar fire mishap, residents are asking civic officials and the traffic department to crack a whip on illegal and double parking, which slows down traffic. Worse still, it hampers the entry of fire tenders and ambulance during mishaps and emergencies. There is no dedicated parking lot near Mulund railway station as a result bikers, auto drivers, taxi drivers and car owners park their vehicles haphazardly along the road itself.

Locals complaint that there are several roads in Mulund which are dotted with potholes and illegal parking – Bhakti Marg, Mulund Colony, Pandit Dindayal Upadhayay Marg, LBS Marg, MG Road, Netaji Subhash Chandra Road, Madan Mohan Malviya, Jawahar Lal Nehru Road and R P Road to mention a few. These roads double parking issues. The road outside Mulund station on the west side is a nightmare. “People park their vehicles on MG Road and Netaji Subhadh Chandra Road near the railway station,” said Parth Shah, a resident of R P Road.
