ALMs of Ward 63 is an umbrella body comprising many ALMs in ward 63 (JVPD, Juhu and Shastri Nagar). We have been conducting ALM meetings for past several years at the Juhu Gandhigram Municipal School that is managed by the ward on the first Saturday of every month. Many officers from several departments such as solid waste management, maintenance, tree department and health department attend these meetings. During the meetings, issues related to garbage, storm water drains, tree trimming, footpaths, paver blocks and hawkers are discussed. Over the past several months, we had received complaints about the Juhu market, near the gaothan area. Residents were facing problems due to hawkers taking over the paths meant for walking—people in Juhu generally complain about the lack of space to walk. Our ALM visited the area in question, spoke to the shopkeepers and insisted hat they leave enough space for the citizens. Later, with the help of the corporator, we also arranged for bins so that the garbage goes directly into the bins and the place stays clean. We frequently conduct surprise visits at the market to check its condition. This has kept the hawkers on their toes and the residents are happy to see positive change.
