MU's new V-C Dr Suhas Pednekar proud former teachers recount his student days

Not just the teachers but Dr Pednekar's college mates too visited the institution to praise him

As soon as the news of Dr Suhas Pednekar being appointed as the new V-C of Mumbai University was declared by the Governor and Chancellor of State Universities, CH Vidyasagar, everyone from staff to college mates of Dr Pednekar, including his college teachers, rushed to congratulate him.

Four of his former teachers — Sushma Sathe, former faculty of the Department of Chemistry, Rita Doctor, former professor of philosophy and psychology, Kalpagam Raghuraman, former Head of the department of chemistry, and Lalita Paranjpe, former head of department of English — were also present to congratulate Dr Pednekar. Not just the teachers but Dr Pednekar's college mates too visited the institution to praise him.

Sathe, former faculty of department of Chemistry, Ruia College, who came from Thane to congratulate Dr Pednekar, said, "Pednekar was my student for two years. He is not just a principal but was also a student of this college. He was a very sincere student."

Raghuraman, former Head of the department of Chemistry, said, "Suhas was my student from the time he joined the college. We taught him till he completed his five-year degree course. He is very particular about his work and consistent too. He is a meticulous person and am sure he will handle this responsibility well."

Rita Doctor, former professor of Philosophy and Psychology, from Ruia and teacher of Pednekar, said, "I taught in this college for 40 years and I have seen Pednekar from growing as a demonstrator to principal. It is a proud moment to know that our student has become a V-C."

Rajeev Bhangaonkar, college mate of Dr Pednekar, said, "Pednekar was my senior in college and from that time till date, he is the same person. Very sincere and soft-spoken. He was one of the brilliant students."
