Mumbai University on Thursday informed the Bombay High Court that it is trying its best to declare results of all streams by August 31. Earlier the university had set a deadline of August 5, which it could not meet.

Advocate Rui Rodrigues, appearing for the university, told the court, "We (university) are alive to the problem faced by the students." To this, a bench of Justice Anoop Mohta and Justice Vibha Kankanwadi said, "Human error is marginalised by machines, but humans are required to operate them and for that human resource is required."

Rodrigues submitted to the court a letter by Director of Examinations, Professor Dr Arjun Ghatule, which stated, "The university will strive to declare all the results by August 31."

The bench has now posted the matter for further hearing on the same date and expressed hope that the students' suffering is done away with.

The new deadline was given by the university while hearing a series of petitions filed by university students and the teachers union. One of the petitions filed by three law students, Sachin Pawar, Abhishek Bhat and Ravishekhar Pandey, sought a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the academic loss borne by students who cannot secure admissions to various reputed universities in the country and abroad due to the university's delayed results.

Rodrigues said that last year the admission for Law CET was delayed and the same can be done this year if the situation requires. The court said, "If you don't do it then we will order."

The court has also asked the university to, on the next date, furnish details of the measures it is taking to ensure that this situation of delayed results does not repeat next year.
