Security deployment at crucial locations in the state and city including the Metro, Monorail, Juhu aerodrome and civic hospitals was affected on Tuesday as the security staff of the Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) went on strike.

The MSF security staff, who are currently employed on contract basis, have been demanding for a long time that they are made permanent state government employees. They are also demanding status equivalent to police.

Dilip Kawathkar, spokesperson, MMRDA, said, "There are total 690 MSF guards at Metro stations and 243 MSF guards at Monorail stations. Many did not report to work on Tuesday."

Due to the strike, Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL), operating Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro-1, sought help from the Mumbai Police for security arrangements. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), too, said that it had to deploy additional private security guards at Monorail stations.

The MSF guards are also deployed at civic-run hospitals like KEM, Sion, Nair and Cooper. Avinash Supe, Dean, KEM Hospital, said, "Around 400 guards of MSF did not report to work on Tuesday at all civic-run hospitals owing to strike."
