Ravi Kale (name changed), a parent of a class 9 student, filed a complaint with the Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) against Malad-based St Anne's School. The plaint was lodged for allegedly failing his son and depriving him of concessions for learning disability. The commission, in its hearing on Thursday, decided to form a three member committee to reassess the answer sheet.

Kale initially filed a complaint with the education department of western zone in May this year, and to MSCPCR in June. According to the complaint, his son was studying in class 9 in 2013-14 at St Anne's School.

He has all three learning disability (LD) problems – dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia. The school failed him, depriving him of concessions given to LD students and did not conduct a proper oral exam.

The MSCPCR held its first hearing on Thursday. The school said that they have given all LD students concessions and that throughout the year, when the school kept showing the student's answer sheets to the parents, they never questioned the school. However, once he failed the final exam, they expressed their anger and the school re-assessed his answer sheets; The boy still needed 51 marks to pass, while the school could only give 20 grace marks.

S Mane, the boy's parent, said, "We have the certificate from the LTGM hospital in Sion and submitted it to school in 2008 itself. My son was not given proper concessions and neither were his oral exams conducted properly. That is the reason he failed his final exam."

When dna tried contacting the school's principal, Annie Braganza, she did not respond to either calls or messages.
