Restaurants in Thane seem least bothered to have fire safety measures in place. Though over 542 Thane hotels took forms to obtain fire NOC from the fire department of the civic body, only 180 applied for the same.

However, inspection from the fire department revealed that even they are not safety compliant.

Since most hotels, restaurants and hookah parlours in Thane do not have these measures in place, Thane municipal corporation (TMC) has given them 15 days period to apply for the requisite fire NOC.

However, on Saturday, hardly any bothered to apply. “Of the 542 forms for NOC distributed, only 180 applied for a joint inspection,” says Shashikant Kale, chief fire officer, TMC. Even those who have applied for the NOC failed to meet the fire safety norms prescribed by the TMC.

Sandeep Pachange, president, MNS student wing, said, “Despite extended deadlines, these hotels and hookah parlours have failed to obtain NOC. They should be shut till they meet the required safety norms. They should be allowed to operate parcel counters and not function fully,” he says. “We will wait for TMC to take action. But we will definitely shut them in MNS style,” he said.
