Mont Blanc building blaze leaves seven dead, six injured

The massive blaze Mont Blanc Apartments at Kemps Corner in South Mumbai left seven dead and an equal number of persons injured as it engulfed the 12th floor. Most patients died either due to suffocation after inhaling smoke or due to thermal burns, said  doctors who conducted the post-mortem on the deceased.

The deceased have been identified as filmmaker Dinesh (65), his wife Devyani Gandhi (65), who stayed in flat no 122 on the 12th floor, Bhuralal Minaria (40), Chittranjandas Ramchandradas (39), Chotu (17), Sumitra Shigwan (42) and Ajay Singh (45) liftman.

The electricity and water supply to the building has been disconnected and will be restored once the investigation into the incident is complete.

There were seven injured people in the blaze. This included resident Nandini Halwasiya, 50. She has been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital with superficial burns, but is now stable.
