In what appeared to be a foiled suicide attempt where a 28-year-old youth's plans of killing himself ended up in his mother dying, the son has now revealed that he wanted to fulfill his mother's 'wishes' to take her to his deceased father. In dire financial straits, the woman wanted to starve till death, until she and her son decided to die in their sleep instead.

The deceased, Rebecca Gopalan, 60, and her son Rohan planned on ending their lives after breathing in Carbon Monoxide gas. This was done after taking the pipe into a room and connecting it to the fuel exhaust of the two-wheeler at their second floor residence.

The Palghar police have revealed that the two were in debt and depressed. A police officer said: "When we spoke to Rohan, he was in a very depressed state and revealed that his mother wanted him to take her to his dad. The father had died of Malaria and Rohan said it was the mother's wish to end their lives."

While the mother agreed on dying of starvation, the son didn't want her to die painfully. "So, the two decided to die in their sleep," added the official.

Nilesh Mainkar, police inspector, Palghar police station said: "We have conducted the post-mortem and are awaiting the reports. We are investigating the case through all angles."
