Three siblings were hospitalised due to food poisoning after reportedly consuming sugarcane juice in Andheri. While one of them is still under treatment at Cooper Hospital, the other two have been discharged after preliminary treatment. Meanwhile, the children's father has alleged that they were poisoned by their mother. The DN Nagar police have registered a case against Shaheen Shaikh, the mother. Moreover, the juice seller concerned has denied having sold any juice to the woman and the children. No arrest has been made in the case so far.

According to the police, the complainant, Mohammad Farooq Shaikh, a tailor, resides in Hussain Chawl in Juhu Gully with his three children. Shaikh is divorced from Shaheen and suspected her of having an illicit affair with a youth. They have been staying separately for the past six months.

"On Thursday night, when Shaikh had stepped out of his house, Shaheen (27) came there and asked her three children to accompany her to have sugarcane juice. While two of the kids drank only a bit of juice, complaining that it tasted bitter, the elder son drank two glasses. After returning home, all of them felt giddy and were brought to Cooper Hospital by Shaikh. One of the children said all this in his statement," said a police officer.

He added that when she was called to the police station, Shaheen denied having met the children at all. "We are probing the case further," the officer said.
