Shahid Rafi (52), son of legendary singer Mohammed Rafi, is among the candidates of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) from the city. He will be contesting from Mumbadevi that has a sizeable number of Muslims.

The party has declared 13 candidates apart from this, all in Mumbai metropolitan regions, where there are sizeable number of Muslims. Byculla, Versova, Shivaji Nagar, Bandra East and West, Kurla, Mumbra and Bhiwandi are among them. Except for Bandra East and Shivaji Nagar, others belonged to Congress or NCP. Bandra East is with Sena and Shivaji Nagar with Samajwadi Party.

"I want to serve people. My father used to help people. I thought by becoming an MLA, I could help people. Many parties have come and gone, but nothing has changed. I request people to give me a chance," said Shahid Rafi. He is into garment business.

"The problem is nothing has changed despite Muslims voting for ruling parties. They have just been used as vote bank. AIMIM has done a lot in the South by way of promoting education institutions. It will do something good here too," said Rahebar Khan, AIMIM candidate from Bandra East.
