The Mumbai crime branch that is probing IPS officer Sunil Paraskar rape case has found out that a claim made by the victim in the FIR, that Paraskar had taken away her old phone, was false and that the victim herself had sold the phone to someone. Officers said when they confronted the victim about this, she said she had forgotten that she had sold the phone and mistakenly mentioned in the FIR as having given it to Paraskar.

In February, at the time of registering the FIR, the victim had said that she and her sister had met Paraskar at his office, when he was the additional commissioner of police, north region. "Victim had claimed in her first statement in the FIR that during this meeting, Paraskar had gifted her a new iPhone and taken away her old Samsung handset," said a crime branch officer.

"The victim admitted that she had given a wrong fact by mistake in the earlier FIR and that the Samsung phone was sold by her in January 2014."

The phone is in possession of crime branch.
