The Mumbai civil and sessions court on Friday sentenced model Preeti Jain to three years imprisonment for conspiring to kill film-maker Madhur Bhandarkar, after she told police that he had raped her.

"Two, including actor Preeti Jain, sentenced to three years imprisonment by a Mumbai court. One person gets two years jail," reported ANI.

Jain had hit headlines when she accused Bhandarkar of sexually exploiting her.

The actress had lodged a complaint with the Versova Police in July 2004 alleging that Bhandarkar had raped her 16 times between 1999 and 2004 under the pretext of casting her as an actress in his films.

The other accused Naresh Pardesi, aide of gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli, had allegedly taken 'supari' (contract money) from Jain to kill Bhandarkar. Jain had given Rs 75,000 'supari' to Naresh in 2005.
