Wednesday, 23 April 2014 - 9:30am IST | Agency: dna

A mobile store owner was allegedly cheated of Rs46.8 lakh after the director and chairman of Rakhi Sawant Beauty Lounge in Goregaon bought mobile phones for their business from him. A case was registered with the Goregaon police on Tuesday.

The complainant, Lakshmi Narayan Yadav, said the incident happened in July 2013, when his employee introduced him to the company director Deepak Karani. He claimed they are planning to launch a mobile phone business and also told Yadav that actor Rakhi Sawant was the company MD. Sawant has been unavailable for comment.

"Karani bought more than 578 phones in 10 days and gave cheques of different amounts," said Yadav.

While Yadav was able to encash about Rs28 lakh, he could not encash the remaining Rs46.8 lakh. "The cheques kept bouncing due to insufficient balance. Karani kept ignoring my calls. Later, I was asked to meet the company chairman Afsal Kapadia." Yadav was also allegedly asked to pay Rs4 lakh as commission to get the rest of the money.

Kapadia assured him the money will be deposited in his account. "He asked me to return all the cheques, which I did, but didn't receive any money in my account."

Senior inspector Arun Jadhav said, "We have registered an FIR. We are yet to establish if Sawant is aware of the case or associated with the company."
